Ron Insana '79
Alongside his senior portrait, Ron wrote, "A relationship can only be as good as the people involved. At Chaminade, I've experienced nothing but excellent relationships." So it happened, soon after graduating from CSUN in 1984, that Ron connected wtih classmate Casey Wian, who described a three-year-old business he was working at called Financial NEws Network or FNN - Serendipity! Casey hired Ron as a production assistant.
Flash forward. Today, Ron is the anchor of CNBS’s “Street Signs,” which is broadcast live each afternoon from CNBC’s global headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. Most recently, Ron garnered an exclusive interview with President George W. Bush to discuss the global economy and the war on terrorism. It was more than mere coincidence that Ron was acclaimed “Best Personality” by his senior year classmates.
Ron rose to managing editor and chief of FNN’s Los Angeles bureau, which was his position when FNN merged with CNBC in 1991. He was nominated for a Golden ACE Award for his role in covering the 1987 stock market crash, and many of us saw Ron reporting from the streets of New York City on 9/11. For this work, he was nominated for a News and Documentary Emmy Award as part of NBC’s coverage of 9/11.
At CNBC, Ron is a regular contributor to NBC’s “Today Show,” the “Nightly News with Tom Brokaw,” “Imus in the Morning” and other programs on sister network MSNBC when stock market activity warrants. Additionally, Ron writes a monthly column for USA TODAY entitled, “Talking Business with Ron Insana” and hosts the nationally syndicated radio program, “The Ron Insana Show” for Westwood One.
Also an author, Ron has completed three books relating to Wall Street. His most recent book, “How to Avoid Wall Street’s next Fads, Manias and Bubbles” was published in November 2002.
Ron’s focus goes well beyond his work. He is an active board member in Junior Achievement, New York, and donates to the Robin Hood Foundation, the Michael J. Fox Foundation, the Riverdale Jewish Home for the Aged and the Imus Ranch for Kids. Ron also remembers his roots. He was a donor to Chaminade’s recent Capital Campaign and continues to be an active donor to the School’s Annual Fund campaign. He is active in his class reunions and played drums with the “Southbound” band and his classmates at the 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner-Dance.
Ron and his lovely wife, Melinda, and children, Emily, Thomas and Anna reside in New Jersey.
