Scott Stuber is the head of Original Films at Netflix, where he oversees the development, production and acquisition of Netflix Films.

Scott grew up in Granada Hills, California, the youngest of two boys. During his years at Chaminade, he played baseball and basketball. Athletic Hall of Fame member Mike Lynn taught and coached Scott all through high school; he credits Scott with leading the basketball team to the championship of the Santa Fe League during his senior year.

After graduating from Chaminade, Scott attended the University of of Arizona, and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television.

Scott began his career as an assistant in the Universal Pictures marketing department, and after spending 20 years as either an executive or a producer with the studio, Scott ultimately became Universal’s Vice Chairman of Worldwide Production. He oversaw many critically-acclaimed, award-winning and commercially-successful films, including the Fast and the Furious franchise, A Beautiful Mind, Seabiscuit, Cinderella Man, Jarhead, 8 Mile, the Bourne franchise, as well as Meet the Parents and its follow-ups. More than 20 of the films he supervised have grossed $100 million-plus at the U.S. box office.

In 2005, Scott founded Bluegrass Films, where he produced films for Universal. At Bluegrass, Scott’s hits included Ted, Central Intelligence, and Safe House, among many others.

Wanting to be on forefront of changing the way entertainment is enjoyed throughout the world, in May of 2017, Scott joined Netflix to head their film group. With deep ties to the creative community and decades of experience in producing profitable and acclaimed motion pictures, he welcomed the opportunity to shape a new paradigm of the industry. The New York Times recently called Scott “one of the most important — and disruptive — people in the film business.”

Netflix Original Films has already seen success under Scott’s leadership. The thriller Bird Box has broken records with 45.6 million subscribers out of 137 million watching the film in its first week on the platform. Roma, directed by Alfonso Cuaron, has won several awards this season including two Golden Globes: Best Director – Motion Picture and Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language at the 2019 Golden Globes. Roma is the first Netflix film to be nominated in the Best Picture category at the Oscars and has earned 10 Oscar nominations in total.
