High School Life FAQ

Chaminade’s average enrollment is 1250 students from grades 9 through 12. The average class size is 27, and the teacher student ratio is 14:1.

 

Chaminade teaches in a modified block schedule. Each day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. Classes are 80 minutes long and meet every-other-day.  All Chaminade students take seven classes each semester. Classes are divided into a two-day rotation, with each day having four blocks. On Day 1 of the rotation, students attend three classes.  The fourth class block on Day 1 is reserved for academic support.  This “X-Block” offers the students the opportunity to seek individual help from teachers, work on collaborative projects with classmates, do research in the library or simply complete assigned work.  On Day 2 of the rotation, students attend the other four classes in their schedule.

 

Chaminade has two lunch blocks to accommodate all students in our cafeteria. Generally, 9^th and 10^th grades enjoy lunch from 11:35 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. while the 11^th and 12^th grades eat from 1:05 p.m. to 1:40 p.m. Many students purchase lunch in our cafeteria using their Eagle Card/ID which functions as the student payment method for the cafeteria and the student store.

 

Chaminade has eight full-time counselors, including a school therapist. All counselors are trained college counselors.  When you enroll at Chaminade, students are assigned a counselor that they will remain with throughout their high school career. This provides the continuity of having a college counselor who knows the student well as they guide the student and their family through the process of completing graduation and college eligibility requirements as well as the college application and admissions process.

 

Chaminade offers 26 Advanced Placement classes, including the highly regarded AP Capstone program.  Additionally, Chaminade offers 12 Honors level classes.  This curricular variety and rigor is one of the driving reasons behind the outstanding college placement enjoyed by our graduating seniors!

 

Chaminade students are required to wear a uniform which consists of khaki or navy bottoms and a Chaminade polo shirt in either white, navy or grey. Our primary uniform provider is Dennis Uniforms. Additional uniform items and sprit wear can be purchased through our school run store, and through our on-campus Student Activities store.

 

Not all students who attend Chaminade are Catholic.  We are religiously diverse and value all of our students, meeting them on their faith journey, wherever they may be.  The first thing that a student will notice is that they have a religion class in their academic schedule every semester at Chaminade.  The entire Chaminade community of teachers and students will attend one or two liturgical celebrations per month throughout the year.  Students are also required to perform Apostolic Works (community service) every year as a part of the school’s graduation requirements.  Chaminade also has a robust retreat program.  Grade level specific retreats help build community and strengthen students’ faith journeys.

 

Chaminade offers both a variety bus routes from surrounding communities, as well as inter-campus bus service.  Inter-campus buses transport students between the West Hills and Chatsworth campuses, providing families the convenience of only having to travel to the nearest campus to get their student to school. We also offer bus routes from the East San Fernando Valley (with stops along Ventura Boulevard), from Santa Clarita/Valencia, and from the Conejo Valley (with stops along the 23 and 101 Freeways).
