2007 Inductees
Liz Giltner Smith '97
Liz was an Eagle track and field star nonpareil as a four-year letterman. An all-around athlete, Liz was named the Pentathlon National Scholastic Indoor Champion in 1996; placed second in the USATF Junior Olympics National Championships in 1995; was champion in Mission League, Section CIF and State CIF competitions in the high jump as well as Mission League champion in the 100 meter hurdles in 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997.
Tom Lord '78
Tom lettered in baseball (2 years), basketball ( 3 years) and was named First-Team All Santa Fe League in basketball in his junior and senior years as well as All-CIF his last year. He averaged 27 points per game and was the third leading scorer in the Los Angeles area his senior year. Subsequently, Tom went on to play basketball at UC Berkeley.
Ric and Maria Uribe
Proud parents of Teresa ’78, Javier ’79, and Dolores ’80, Ric and Maria have volunteered and supported Chaminade as donors, fundraisers, and board members over the last 35 years. Their major gift spearheaded the construction of the Uribe Sports Center, making it possible for Eagle indoor sports to go from “the asphalt to hardwood floors.”
Mike Valentine
Since arriving at Chaminade Middle School in 1978, Mike has coached flag football, swimming, boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball, track, volleyball and field hockey. For 28 straight years, Mike’s basketball teams made the playoffs. The majority of our Athletic Hall of Fame nominees are the beneficiaries of Mike’s coaching skills and commitment.
Ronald Wangerin '84
Ron lettered in football (2 years), basketball (3 years) and baseball (2 years). As a senior, he was named Chaminade’s Athlete of the Year, All League, All Valley and Most Valuable Back (Santa Fe League). He was named Santa Fe All-League Defensive Back as a junior. Ron went to USC on a baseball scholarship and was asked to walk-on for football, which he did. In his freshman year, Ron and the Trojan team were victorious in the Rose Bowl.
