Middle School Exploratories

Chaminade Middle School offers a wide range of exploratory subjects for students to investigate and experience.  It is our hope that our middle school students will graduate with an increased appreciation and knowledge of the Fine Arts, Computer Science, Foreign Language and Library programs.  With this goal in mind, students will, at times have the opportunity to select classes or will be placed in a variety of subjects as they move from grade level to grade level.

Band
The music program at Chaminade plays a vital role in the education of the whole child by fostering the development of musical gifts, spiritual awareness, and aesthetic appreciation. The faculty seeks to create an awareness of beauty, encourage a growing sense of discernment, and provide diverse opportunities for the exploration of individual talents in an unthreatening atmosphere.

Computer Science
Chaminade Middle School Computer Science curriculum is based on the premise that students today will be using computers daily as they continue their education, graduate, attend college, and join the work force. No matter what their chosen profession, Chaminade students will have the foundation required to effectively use technology to their advantage.

Course work is designed to impart practical skills and current information that is of immediate value and use. Emphasis is placed on learning through doing—as much time as possible is spent with hands-on computer experience. Theoretical information is based on the practical implications with relevancy of paramount concern.

Drama
The Performing Arts, within the Fine Arts Department, are committed to the development of the "whole student". Within that commitment, each student is encouraged to participate and grow through the exploration of interpretation, preparation, appreciation, and performance.

Music

Visual Arts
Students who participate in the visual arts develop a structure for responding to and symbolizing their experiences. They derive pleasure from their accomplishments as they gain flexibility and confidence from having direct experiences with the visual arts. The basics of art production integrated with other subject knowledge aids in providing the basics of innovation, progress and leadership.
