We are pleased to announce Gary Simons '77 is the 2015 Distinguished Alumnus. He was honored at the 19th annual breakfast on January 30.
Chaminade alumni include exceptional individuals who are leaders in business and the community, and incorporate Marianist values in their everyday lives. Through extraordinary commitment to their families, communities, schools, and churches, nominees consistently improve and uplift the quality of life for those around them. They embody dedication to others. Each winter, Chaminade honors its Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna of the Year.
At Homecoming 1979, Ken Purcell '57 was honored as the first recipient of the award. Ken was the first full term Chaminade alumni president and prime organizer of the association. The award was given for the second time in 1980 to Charles "Chuck" Behm '57. It was 19 years later that the award ceremony was made an annual event, honoring Henry Burdick '60. From 1999 on, the recipients receive the award during Catholic Schools Week at the annual Distinguished Alumni Breakfast.
The key criteria are the individual's willingness to lead and the individual's philanthropic record. To be eligible, their time of service must consist of more than fifteen years since leaving Chaminade and the honoree must be able to attend the event.
If you would like to nominate an alumnus/alumna, please contact Peggy Smith, Alumni Relations Manager at 818-444-1750.
